FAQs

What services do you offer?

We specialize in bridal and special occasion dress alterations, custom design elements, and general clothing alterations. Our experienced seamstresses are dedicated to ensuring your garments fit perfectly and reflect your personal style.

How much do bridal alterations cost?

The cost varies based on the complexity of the dress and the specific alterations required. Basic fit adjustments typically range from $450 to $850, while more intricate alterations can be between $850 and upwards of $1,500. Additional design elements, such as custom sleeves or beading, may incur extra costs.

When should I schedule my first fitting?

We recommend booking your first fitting at 3 months before your wedding or event. This timeline allows ample time for necessary adjustments and ensures a perfect fit.

What happens at each bridal fitting? How many fittings?

There are two alterations appointments:

The 1st fitting is an hour-long appointment where you as the bride can discuss your vision with the Forget Me Knot team and we will ask important questions such as: Would you like to add a bustle? How do you feel in your gown? Did you wanna add any customizations such as sleeves, buttons or add lace? We will be pinning everything to your current measurements so it's best to come at your ideal body measurements and bring any shapewear you plan to wear on your big day, any changes to your measurements after the first first fitting will result in more work which can be expensive. At this fitting, we will also be pinning the length of your gown, so it is required that you bring your exact shoes with you to your appointment. Failure to bring shapewear and exact shoes with you may result in a rebooking fee.

The 2nd fitting is also an hour-long appointment held 6-8 weeks after your 1st. We call this the “inspection appointment.” This is where you will inspect everything that was agreed to at your 1st fitting appointment. You will need to bring your exact shoes and the same shapewear that you brought to your first appointment to ensure the perfect fit.  We start from top to bottom, checking the fit, making sure you can move comfortably to enjoy your time with your guests. We will check the length, making sure you can properly walk in your gown to help you walk down the aisle. This is also the perfect time to bring friends or family members to learn how to help you get dressed and how to do the bustle. We always video record a bustle tutorial for all of our brides, so please do not worry if you can't bring anyone with you to your appointment. The FMK team has everything covered for you. If your dress does not require extensive alterations, and the fit is perfect this will be the appointment that you take your gown home with you. Most times, at the 2 fittings, we decide together what final touches are needed and schedule an additional fitting.

What should I bring to my fitting?

To ensure the best possible experience and a perfect fit, brides are required to bring their exact shoes (to ensure the correct length for your gown+bustle) and any shapewear you plan to wear on your wedding day. These items are essential for all fittings, and if they are not provided, a rescheduling fee may apply.

Can you still alter my wedding gown if the sizing is wrong?

Yes, we can certainly help with resizing, but please keep in mind that if you've purchased a sample or dress that is two or more sizes too small, the cost of resizing can be higher and may require additional fittings. If you're unsure whether your gown can be resized or would like to know more about the cost, we recommend scheduling a consultation so we can assess the gown in person. Consultations start at $150, and you can give us a call to schedule an appointment.”

Can I bring guests to my Bridal appointments?

We understand that alterations can feel intimidating, especially for something as important (and expensive) as your wedding gown. Since alterations are a personal experience that require focus from both the fitters and the bride, we kindly ask that brides bring no more than 2 guests for the first fitting. This allows us to carefully discuss our plan for your gown while we get to know each other. We are here to guide you on alterations, styling, custom ideas, and accessories—so don’t hesitate to ask us anything. And remember, you’re welcome to bring additional guests to the second fitting—so pick someone special who can learn how to do your bustle and cheer you on!

Do I need shoes to get something hemmed?

Shoes are required for any service that involves hemming, especially for bridal, formal, and bridesmaid gowns, to ensure accuracy. If you forget to bring them to your appointment, we will need to reschedule, and an additional rebooking fee will apply.

Do you take walk-ins?

To ensure we provide the best service possible, we require appointments. However, if availability allows, we can accommodate last minute appointments. We highly recommend calling in advance to secure your spot.
